Writing

Took a bit of a break from writing and am slowly getting back into the groove, mostly working on my stuff for Musa and doing some research for the paranormal profiler books. But, while I don't have any real writing-related news of my own this fine Monday, I thought I would take the opportunity to point you all in the direction of an interview and giveaway by my BFF Gini Koch over at Book Monster Reviews. (And check out one of the two books she's been waiting for "like a slavering beast." Because it's always about me, heh.)

Everything Else

In other news, we got Max's scan results back today, and they weren't quite what we'd hoped for. You may recall that back in June, Max's scans were clear. However, they'd been done on a new machine, and the oncologist wasn't 100% sure he trusted the results. He became more confident in them as time went on and he saw other patient scans coming back accurate, so we allowed ourselves to start thinking Max's probably were, too.

That, unfortunately, was a mistake. Turns out his scans WEREN'T accurate - the latest ones show that the tumor is still active. A little bit smaller and a little more calcified than it was a year ago (the last time we had accurate scans), but...still active.

Of course, anything other than progression is a blessing, and we're very grateful that he remains stable and is doing so well. But it is hard not to be a little disappointed after getting our hopes up. Still, we have our happy little guy here with us, when many other parents do not, so I am most definitely NOT complaining. Every day with him is a gift, and I never forget it.

We did get a little bit of concerning news, though. He had blood work done today and his oncologist called tonight to tell me that Max's thyroid hormone levels were abnormally high. The doctor is going to forward the labs off to the endocrinologist and get back to me within the next 48 hours. It's likely an effect from his treatment, as opposed to a sign that the cancer may be doing something we don't want it to (other than, you know, existing), but it still means more tests and more doctors on the horizon, so your continued prayers would be much appreciated. As always.

Finally, December 15th is the last day for Max's runners to meet their fundraising goal for PCH, so if you were waiting until the last minute to donate, that minute has come. Let's turn that thermometer red!

I dread this question. Because I have so many. “The Shard Axe” by Marsheila Rockwell, and “One Salt Sea” by Seanan McGuire are at the top.

Yay! Cool Marcy! *g*

And sorry about the bad news. You guys are in my thoughts.

Love you. Hate these results, but Max is amazing. As are you.

We cannot donate this month, but can do so in mid-January. Would it be possible to do it then too?

Thanks, Marshall. And it's not BAD news. It's just not the good news we were expecting.

I THINK it's possible to donate through the team's site up until the day of the race (1/15/12), but they stop counting it towards the fundraising goal on 12/15/11 (paperwork reasons, I'm assuming). I'm sure it must be - it's not like they're going to say no, LOL. I'll check into it and get back to you. :)

I wish the Max news was better, and glad it's at least a little bit in the right direction. He sounds like an amazing fighter. In fact you all are.

Darn, I'm sorry. Not progressing is good, though.

Thanks, Sam. It's not BAD news - if we hadn't had the supposedly "clean" scans in between, we'd be happy. And we ARE - just a little disappointed, as well.
