Everything Else

Got email and a phone call from hubby! Great way to end February, that's for sure! He's almost to the FOB, so I'll be able to send him care packages soon. Looking forward to using my new Foodsaver and getting to know the post office folks on a first name basis, heh.

Can we help? Ask your hubbie what his unit likes/needs/wants and we can pull together care packages over the time they're deployed.

Thanks, Stu! I've already got some of the other Eberron authors sending me books, so we should be covered on that front. I will have a better idea of specific things they need in a few weeks, but I do know phone cards are always appreciated. Beef jerky is always a big hit, too.

Kyrie could probably chime in here, too, if she sees this - her hubby is also in the sandbox.

Getting to know the folks at the PO on a first name basis is a good thing! I even gave mine presents at Christmas last year! ;)

I'm chiming in as requested on care package stuff. The biggest thing is NO liquids! I don't know why (but I can guess), but that was drilled into me early on.

On phone cards, I'm told your best value is to get them through aafes.com and ANYONE can send them- http://aafes.com/docs/support.htm (same with aafes gift certificates). Hmmm....I know the Navy runs their own exchange service, I don't know if they offer anything similar.

My hubby went and bought a pay-as-you-go cell phone when he got there, and other than the crappy conection, it's pretty nice.

As to other stuff, I have a list for my hubby here- http://cantnotwrite.blogspot.com/2007/01/care-package-list.html, and that may give you some ideas of other things the guys enjoy.

I hope that helps!
