And A Good Time Was Had By All

Had an epiphany on my YA novel as to why it wasn't working the way I wanted - despite having an almost teenager (or, perhaps, because of it), I can't seem to get the voice of today's teens down convincingly. So I'm making the main character older, which means my word count will now double (since YA novels are usually in the 50K range), but that's okay, as I tend to write long anyway.
Everything Else
Celebrated YB's third birthday this weekend. It was fun and chaotic and full of too much food and a whole lot of Thomas the Train stuff. YB is still talking about the cake and ice cream and kids and presents, so I think it was a hit.
hewet_ka_ptah came up for the party, with a trunk full of goodies and letters for my husband and his guys, donated by the kindergarten through 3rd-grade classes at her kids' school. And she's going to be bringing more from the older grades next time I see her. Have I mentioned lately how much this lady rocks? Seriously - you should all be lucky enough to know someone as awesome as her.
thefirespiral wasn't able to come, but we did meet up with her and her family the next day for lunch at this yummy little Jamaican restaurant, so that was fun. Plus, I finally got to give her the housewarming gift I got her for the last house she lived in. Ah, well...better late than never, right? Heh.
And my husband was able to call (though he had to stay up past 3 in the morning to do so), and talk to everyone, so that was really cool. Almost made me feel like he was here celebrating with us. Almost.
All in all, it was a great weekend. Now if I could just find someone to take the forty pounds of leftover cake off my hands...heh.
