And it's off! The final draft of The Shard Axe is winging through cyberspace to my editors' inboxes even as I type. Good luck, little book! Make me proud!
Here's where I reveal a little about my book-writing process. The very last thing I do with a book is print out the whole manuscript (after I've let it sit for a few days to a week) and then sit down and read through the whole thing in one shot, looking for typos that autocorrect didn't catch, those sneaky little double spaces after periods, turns of phrase or unusual words that I've used more than a couple of times, etc. This part of the process has to be done in utter silence (well, as utter as you can get with three kids), which usually means it has to happen after everyone else is in bed. So I typically start at 9 or 10 at night and read until I'm done, marking up the hard copy as I go. Then I go back to the computer and transcribe all the changes back into the Word document, do one last spell/grammar check, and I'm done.
The whole process, start to finish, usually takes about 8 or 9 hours. I started last night at 9 PM. I finished this morning at 4:30 AM.
Yeah. I'm going to go pass out now. Heh.
Everything Else
Max can count to ten now (if you leave out "seven"). Which is really, really cute, until about the 3,452nd time he wants to read the same number book and you're working on about two hours of sleep. O.o
