Writing

Just got word of my second poetry sale of the year. Woot!

What's that? You're asking what I'm wooting about, since I've only sold two poems, and the year's already almost half done? Well, considering I've only submitted three poems this year (and I'm still waiting to hear back on the third), that's a 66% sales rate so far. I think that's worth wooting about (YMMV).

A little bit of background on this poem is in order. I wrote three poems inspired by my husband's deployment to Iraq a few years back. Two of those - "Those Who Wait" and "Brothers in Arms" - sold fairly quickly and were both nominated for the 2008 Rhysling Award. The third poem is quite a bit longer and while it is technically a horror poem, it's not really speculative, so I've had a hard time finding a good market for it. But I brushed it off back in March, tweaked it a bit, and sent it out to a market that seemed like a good fit and - lo and behold - a sale! Deployment poetry hat trick FTW!

"What Blooms in Winter" will be appearing in the December 2011 print edition of Big Pulp, and I'm happy it's found such a good home at last.

Everything Else

Busy weekend. Celebrated Middle Boy's birthday and attended a military wedding where I got to tear up the floor swing-dancing with my hubby in his dress blues. But playtime's over now; I've got a big writing deadline coming up and LepreCon is next week, so I'm going to radio silence (as Gini is fond of saying) for a bit. My undiagnosed ADD dictates that I'll still be posting on Twitter/Facebook, but I probably won't have time for anything over 140 characters, so you know the drill - if you want to keep up with my oh-so-interesting life, that's where to find me! Heh.

Happy May Day, all (and to all my Catholic friends, Happy Divine Mercy Sunday and Beatification of JPII Day)!
