Writing

Had a blast this past weekend at LepreCon 37. I was rooming with Gini Koch and Nicole, so I knew it was going to be a good time, regardless. But I also met and hung out with a lot of other great people, was on some fun panels, and even sold a few books, so it wasn't just fun, it was like a two-scoop awesome sundae drenched in extra awesomesauce, heh.

My first panel was with Emma Bull and Ian Tregellis, who were both delightful and very funny. I even got Emma to sign my first edition copy of War for the Oaks, which I bought back in 1987 with babysitting money and have kept with me all these years because I love it so. (And, of course, just as I'm typing this, I realize I forgot to bring my copy of Territory for her to sign. Gah!)

Saturday I had a couple more panels, a reading and a signing. I got to meet David Corwell y Chavez, who was on a great "Minorities in SF" panel with me, and the adorable Christopher Baldwin, who is a really excellent cartoonist and writer. Check out his webcomic, "Spacetrawler," and see if you don't agree (and I'm not just saying that because he bought my book, heh).

I also got to autograph with both the Author Guests of Honor, Elizabeth Bear and Sarah Monette (though not at the same time), and we swapped bad copy editor horror stories. I didn't make it to Seanan McGuire's (Music Guest of Honor) concert, but I did get to hear her singing in the courtyard as she rushed between panels. She has an absolutely amazing voice, and if you ever get the chance to hear her sing, TAKE IT!

Got to see Rick Novy and Lee Whiteside (mostly just in passing, unfortunately) and Gini introduced me to a ton of interesting people (the funniest of whom being, hands down, "Can't Take the Pressure" Raul). Ended the con by moderating a religion panel in which no blood was shed, so I'll count that one as a success, heh.

Topped it off by coming home to an acceptance for a reprint of my poem, "The Legend of Old Man Joad" (From the Asylum, Jan 2006), for the Southern Fried Weirdness tornado relief charity anthology. All in all, a very good con.

Everything Else

Happy Mother's Day, all! My boys treated me to roses, many gift cards, and a yummy dinner out. Great way to end a wonderful weekend. Hope yours was as good!
