Writing

Got my Rhysling votes in almost a week early - I think that's a record for me, heh. It was pretty easy this year; a lot of the poems didn't appeal to me and many were hardly what I'd consider speculative. Some were even (gasp!) offensive ("I'm sure apologies are forthcoming," she said snarkily), but I did manage to find several I thought were worthy of the award. So, as always, may the best poems win!

In other writing-related news, I finally ordered some business cards. (Better late than never, right?) The color didn't turn out quite the way I wanted - it was supposed to match my website. It did match on the proofs I saw, so I'm not really sure what happened. Anyway, here they are. What do you think?

Everything Else

As I mentioned elsewhere (FB/Twitter), I thought Max was doing pretty well with the patch test until I realized what I thought was a stain from one of the foods was actually a scab where the food had basically burned his skin. So, yeah - ouch. Poor baby. :(

Though we won't have the full results back until next week, it's clear he has an off-the-charts allergy to mustard. Since mustard is in the same family with canola, and that's what we cook with for him, it seems likely that's the culprit behind his recent mystery reactions, and not any of his safe foods.

We also tested him with several of his known allergens - milk, egg, soy, wheat, beef and tomatoes - and he's only shown reactions to four of them (I don't know which four yet), so it seems that he may be outgrowing some of his allergies. So there's a little bit of good news, at least.

In other peripherally Max-related news, I got my hair chopped off today for Locks of Love. I've been doing this since before Max was born, growing my hair out and donating it when it gets long enough, but ever since his cancer diagnosis, it seems even more meaningful. Here's this year's sacrifice, heh:

Now if they'd just come up with a way that I could donate my extra pounds, heh.
