Writing

First off, WotC has posted the first chapter of The Shard Axe over on their website. Go check it out!

In other news, everyone knows that SDCC is happening right now (and I'm not there, sniff). What you may not know is that one of the things that happens at SDCC is the annual Scribe Awards ceremony, in which the best tie-in novels published the previous year are recognized by the membership of the International Association of Media Tie-in Writers.

Without further ado, here are this year's very deserving winners:

*Grandmaster: Peter David
*General Original: SAVING GRACE: TOUGH LOVE by Nancy Holder
*Speculative Original: WARHAMMER: BLOODBORN: ULRIKA THE VAMPIRE by Nathan Long
*Best Adaptation: THE WOLFMAN by Jonathan Maberry
*Best Young Adult: DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: ALDWYN'S ACADEMY by Nathan Meyer

Congrats, all!

Everything Else

Went to see Captain America with hubby as an early anniversary date (the closest we've been able to get to SDCC since we moved from SoCal, alas). It was very fun, and I really enjoyed the Howard Stark character - you can definitely see where Tony gets it. Much better than Thor, IMO. Really looking forward to The Avengers in 2012.

Aside from introducing a fun (if messy) new euphemism into the geek lexicon, this was the best line from the movie, hands down:

"I'm from Fresno, Ace."

Just watch it. You'll see. Heh.
