Writing

Again, not a lot to report here. Dusted off some old poems, rewrote them, submitted them to an anthology. Beta-read a poetry collection for a friend, and edited a 500-pg [redacted] for Jeff. Can't do nearly as much as I used to be able to, alas.

Oh, and pretty much everything's cancelled now, because AZ is the global hotspot for COVID, so don't expect to see us at any cons any time soon. Sorry about that, but, you know, we don't want to die.

Everything Else

Lots going on in the world. In case you were wondering where I stand on some of the issues being debated, I made this little thing:

If that's too subtle:

#BLACK LIVES MATTER

#NATIVE LIVES MATTER

#LGBTQ+ LIVES MATTER

#DISABLED LIVES MATTER

And before you come at me with that "all lives" nonsense - no one anywhere is saying that the above lives matter any MORE than any other lives. Don't be stupid. All life is sacred.

The problem lies in the fact that the above lives have systematically and systemically been valued LESS than other (read: white, male, cis, wealthy) lives. That's the way this country was set up. That was the PURPOSE of this country.

And some of us, who were here long before there was a country, or who were brought here and forced to make it home without having any choice in the matter, are fed up with that racist colonial shit. This country doesn't just belong to wealthy white cis males (though you'd have a hard time believing that if you looked at our government). It never did. It belongs to ALL of us. And it needs to belong to all of us EQUALLY.

SIDE NOTE: I was a Republican for a long time, until they became (or were revealed to be) the party of soulless monsters. I was a registered Independent for a while, and finally registered as a Democrat this past year so I could vote for Elizabeth Warren in the primaries.

While no longer an R, I do still identify as a conservative, or perhaps more aptly, as a conservatarian, because I firmly believe in limiting government. Not the kind of government that passes laws that keep people and our environment safe and makes things fair. I'm talking about the kind of government that gives us the lawless hellscape we're currently living in and the Keystone Cops currently doing their best not to lead us.

But I also believe that the ultimate commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself (not "legislate your neighbor until they make you more comfortable with yourself"). And I see very little love on the right side of the spectrum these days, where conservative-minded people are typically said to live. So, for the record, I currently define myself as a left-leaning conservatarian, and if anyone thinks that's a contradiction in terms or hypocritical or whatever? I dngaf. For the record.
