Writing

I'm in the process of answering interview questions for Pat Ferrara of Mania, who will be reviewing Legacy of Wolves, hopefully next week. I'll let you know when they're up.

Everything Else

So I upgraded to Firefox 2.0.0.6 and have been having all sorts of problems with Yahoo! and certain other websites. I did the firewall thing, the pop-up blocker thing, and the page view thing recommended in their user forums, but I'm still having issues. So if any of the more computer-literate among my readers would care to take pity on me and help me figure out what's wrong, I would be eternally grateful.

What sort of issues with Yahoo! are you having? If I recall correctly, the most recent version of FireFox is having some issues with java. ie it doesn't fully support the current version of java.

Incidentally, if you've never given the browser "opera" a try, it's my browser of choice (as a fairly active web developer, and a all-around nerd, I test alot of software). It can be found here: http://www.opera.com

I should be able to give a more accurate response if I know a little more specifically as to what is going on.

Cheers!

Well, keeping in mind I only know enough about computers to get myself in trouble...

I did the java thing they recommend that is supposed to work around the incompatibility, but I'm still having the same issue.

Basically, Yahoo won't load. It hangs up on the third green bar. If it DOES load, I can't see most of the graphics and I can't go any further than the front page, meaning I can't sign in to check mail or groups. Same with Neopets.com, which my son uses a lot, and military.com. I can get to livejournal fine, gmail, my bank, so it's not all websites.

I've exhausted my limited store of knowledge, and have resorted to pulling out hair. It doesn't help much, but is cheaper than throwing my computer out the window. Heh.

Well, I just learned that Cox is having a system-wide problem in AZ, so it may have nothing to do with Firefox at all. Will just have to wait it out and see. Bleh.

In the meantime, you can always try checking your mail by going straight to http://mail.yahoo.com

Or, an alternative is http://www.mail2web.com (which allows checking for almost every email address out there).

At this point, I'm left with the feeling that it's either your ISP (as you said), or even a possible corrupted install. Uninstall/reinstall *may* be a possibility as well. As for computers and trouble .. meh. Short of picking it up and tossing it out the window (which I'll assume you won't be doing anytime in the near future), everything is fixable.

Cheers!
