*Rejection, Aoife's Kiss, 8/27 (RT: 1 week)
Got the old "feels more like a story than a poem" reject. We'll see if the next editor agrees.
Also, don't forget, Copper Con is next week, and I'm on several panels there, as are several other authors, including some guy named Donaldson. If you're local (i.e., less than 5 hours away), why don't you swing on by? It's going to be a blast!
Everything Else
So, Max was supposed to have his scans/endoscopy this week. Well, I got a call from PCH Tuesday morning saying that they needed to reschedule Max's scans, which were originally scheduled for Thursday (with the MIBG injection on Wednesday). Apparently the radioactive isotope they inject him with for the MIBG scan wasn't fit to be injected in a human (as if anything radioactive truly is), so they needed to order another dose, which takes a week.
That might not have been such a big deal, but Nephrology and GI had piggy-backed tests on top of the scans so that Max wouldn't have to be under anesthesia more than once. And of course, for some unfathomable reason, the hospital doesn't have a centralized place to coordinate rescheduling tests for multiple departments -- it's up to the PARENT to contact all the relevant parties and inform them of the change and hope to God that they can reschedule their procedures with a week's notice.
Luckily, Nephrology was able to accommodate the change. Things got fun with the GI department, though. Apparently, there was some miscommunication between the doctor and his nurses, because it turns out Max was never on their schedule to begin with! Big surprise to both us and the GI doc. Anyway, Radiology having to reschedule turned out to be a Godsend in that regard, as we would not have known that the endoscopy wasn't being done until he was already under for the other tests. (Funny how God works, sometimes, isn't it?)
So we are trying to see if the doctor or one of his associates can squeeze the endoscopy in next week, but it's not looking good at this point. But the upshot is, scans next week (Sept. 2) and endoscopy who knows when? Then we have our follow-up with Max's oncologist on Sept. 9th, but I anticipate a call before then letting us know what the scans show in regards to the neuroblastoma. With any luck, they'll also give us some indication of what's going on with his kidneys, etc., to cause his continued high blood pressure.
In other news, though we haven't weighed Max in awhile, he did move up a diaper size, so that Failure to Thrice diagnosis seems a bit premature.
And today's the day YB finds out if he made Top Reader in this year's Read-a-thon. Last year, as a kindergartner, he read 300 minutes (all reading is done outside of school). This year, he read 601, all of it on his own. The top 100 readers in K-2 get a certificate for Cold Stone. But he did such a good job reading, we're going to take him even if he doesn't win. Ice cream FTW!

Date: 2010-08-27 06:12 pm (UTC)Glad you found out the endoscopy wasn't actually scheduled, and I hope things do get sorted out.
And hooray for YB doing more than 600 minutes of reading on his own!
