*SALE!, Night to Dawn, 1/10 (RT: 2 days)

First sub of the year becomes the second sale of the year. If I subbed nothing else this month, I'd have a sales percentage of 200%. Gotta love that, heh.

I wrote a not-very-good poem for my poetry group, the first one I've written in quite some time. I had these snippets, but no clear idea of where the poem wanted to go, so it just fell flat. Maybe I've been infected by all the bad poetry I've been reading in The Sword Review slush pile, heh. Just a few hints, for anyone who is thinking of submitting there:

1) Breaking a story into stanzas doesn't make it poetry.
2) Just because the words rhyme doesn't mean you've written a poem.
3) Same goes for alliteration or any other "poetic" device.
4) A poem needs to tell a story or convey an emotion or idea or somehow touch the reader. If it doesn't do that, it's not a poem, it's just words arranged cleverly on paper. Which might work for another magazine, but not for us.

Everything Else

Things are getting back to normal here. It's funny how the mind works -- now that my husband is actually gone, I can just tell myself it's like a long AT, and it doesn't seem that bad. I'm sure it will start to get rough again in a couple of weeks, but for now, I'm grateful for the emotional equilibrium, even if it is the result of delusion, heh.

Oo oo! I'll write a poem!

There once was a man from Nantucket...

Ok, no.

Tock, tick
A mind to pick
Ideas, thoughts, a candle wick

Ramble, some
No rhyme to bum
Words, typed, random come

/bow

:)

So when did you become TSR's poetry slush editor? I don't remember that announcement.
