Everything Else
Max news - tumor IS growing (7-8% increase in size since December), but they think it is a result of it maturing from malign neuroblastoma cells to benign ganglioneuroma ones. No way to tell for sure, of course, but if the next scans continue to show growth, then we're going to start talking about just removing the tumor altogether. We've been avoiding that because the tumor is located near Max's spine, and the surgery would be both long and complicated. The risk has never outweighed the benefits before now, but if the tumor continues to increase more than just maturing cells would account for, then that ratio may change. So, the upshot is, we'll know more in September.
MB news - food allergy panel came back negative (i.e., NOT allergic to wheat, egg and dairy, after all). Which, unfortunately, removes the easiest and least worrisome explanation for his continued weight loss, and now we have to pursue some more serious ones. One of those is cystic fibrosis. He's scheduled to have a chloride sweat test on 7/30, and we'll hopefully know the results some time the next day. If it's positive, they'll have to repeat it (SOP for this particular test). If it's negative, we'll move on to the GI specialist and start trying to track down the culprit via that avenue. Obviously, we're hoping for a negative result so if you're praying/thinking good thoughts for Max anyway, if you could add some in for MB, he could certainly use it and we would definitely appreciate it.
Finally, my prayers and thoughts go out to the folks affected by the shootings in CO. That it should be associated with fandom in any way just makes it that much worse. :(
