Wrestled the poem into submission and sent it out. The story has stalled out a bit on a bridging scene that seems to think it needs more words than I want to put into it. So I'm guessing I'm ultimately going to exceed 5K, but I'll keep it on the word meter for now.

Yesterday was a tough day. You think you're used to someone not being around, and then the day's stressors pile up and you realize how much you relied on them just being there. My hat's off to the families that have to do this every year or so. The vast majority of people will never know what you sacrifice daily so that they can be blissful in their ignorance.

No, Marce...thank YOU! YOU are what he's doing this for, you know. Well, mostly you...there is that trifling thing about the country and all...but I think we both know better...so you just hang in there and kick that damn story into submission while you're at it! How dare it think it wants more words. YOU DON'T PAY IT TO THINK! :)

I kinda know what you mean. My wife just started a night job (she's working in a tax office), which means I take care of the kids in the evenings all by myself. It's very tiring after a day at the office. I can't imagine having to do this every day, all day, for a year.
