*Submission, Doorways Cinquain Contest, 3/5

I've finally figured out why I was stuck on my "Gold Star" story -- the title. I kept feeling like I needed to somehow play off the school teacher implications inherent in the title, and that just wasn't working. Haven't decided on a new title yet, but at least I feel like I can move forward on it now, so I'll count that as a victory.

Everything Else

Marvel has decided to kill off Captain America. Considering that Cap was created as a way to raise patriotism back during WWII, and we are now in the midst of another war and could use all the patriotism we can get, this seems like a bad judgment call, at the very least. And what a disappointing, useless way to die.

I can't say it any better than Cap's co-creator, Joe Simon.

"It's a hell of a time for him to go. We really need him now."

Thank you for your service, Cap.

::shakes head sadly::

I imagine, and this is only my speculation, that the death of Captain America is some artist's or some executive's idea of a way to make a point about the sad state of affairs in America right now. I'm far from being a flag waving patriot (I'm very disappointed in the turn America has taken in the last few years,) but I do agree with you that we need Captain America...if nothing else, just as an example of how great America could be.

Although I certainly agree with protesting, this is not the right way to do it...maybe he'll be resurrected in the near future...we can only hope...

I think it's a sign of how most people view patriotism these days: it should be covert and ashamed.

He'll be replaced by Major Apology. /rolleyes

NOOOOOOOOOOO! Cap was one of the first comics I ever owned. I know he's had some rough commercial years, even with the reboot of Avengers and his own title. At least he lives on in the Ultimates universe.

I nearly had a loud fit at work when I read about Cap, but managed to stop myself.

He had a MAJOR role in the amazing just-completed Civil War storyline & I really learned to *like* Steve Rogers, so this is a big surprise.

However, Ed Brubaker is a Damn Good Writer, so I'll be interested to see what he's going to do with this.
