Sold my poem, "Maiden, Mother, Clone," to SCIFAIKUEST on Wednesday. It will be in the print edition in November 2019. Don't worry, I'll remind you about it then. I'll also have a couple of poems ("Little Red Fortuneteller" and "Breaking the Cycle") in this year's November print edition. I'll let you know when that issue is available, too.

Another poem of mine, "Not Your Fairy Tale," is up over at NewMyths.com. Check it out.

Everything Else

Went and saw The Eagles last night as part of Jeffrey J. Mariotte's birthday gift. It was a great concert, but problematic for me.

See, The Eagles were probably my mom's favorite band - her theme song was "Witchy Woman." I grew up listening to their music and they are one of my favorite bands, too, largely because of her influence.

Some of you may recall that my mom died a couple of years ago. For various reasons that still make me bitter, I was forced to make the decision to take her off of life support. My guilt over this continues to haunt me.

Fast forward to concert day, when I was finishing up Gillian Flynn's novel, "Sharp Objects," which is, in part, about an abusive mother. My mother was abusive, physically and emotionally. So the book hit home in a lot of ways.

Then I go to the concert, and there was her band, singing her song. And it made me angry and resentful, because I just wanted an evening listening to my favorite songs with my favorite guy, without it being spoiled by bad memories.

But it also made me miss her. Despite everything, she was my mom and I both loved and hated her. It's hard to extract the good from the bad, but it can be done. Whatever else she did, my mom introduced me to The Eagles, and while I'll never have a peaceful, easy feeling when it comes to her and our relationship, I am grateful to her for that gift.

Take it easy, peeps.
