Writing

The postperson brought my contributor copy and payment for the Doomology antho (put out by the Library of the Living Dead Press), which features my 8,600-word SF story "Doctor God," a dream-inspired tale that blends eastern philosophy, germ warfare and mental illness. Yes, it's just as twisted as it sounds, heh.

I must say, I always appreciate publishers who don't have to be reminded that they owe you money (ahem).

Everything Else

Took Middle Boy to the library today to pick up some research books for me and some reading material for him. Is it just me, or have libraries gotten smaller, noisier and less well-stocked over the years? It makes me nostalgic for the towering two- and three-story brick buildings I used to visit as a girl, getting lost in the stacks and the quiet and the musty, secretive smell of books for hours at a time.

But even if they're not the same as I remember, they're still wonderful places to grow imaginations, and a library card is one of the best gifts you can give a child. All my kids have them. Do yours?
