Writing

There's another very short review of Legacy of Wolves over at Fantasy Book Reviews (scroll down to the July 4th entry). Short and to the point. Works for me. Heh.

Everything Else

Funny how much you miss your kids until you actually come home. Heh.

Okay, on to the GenCon reportage.

Got into Indy on Wednesday evening, whereupon I met up with Jeff LaSala (author of the upcoming fourth book in the Inquisitives series, The Darkwood Mask, and all around sweetheart), his brother John, and their somewhat confused Australian-accented Garmin, Lee. We went for a late dinner with some of the LaSala brothers' friends - the talented Ruth Lampi, the elf-like Jessica Van Oort (two-fifths of The Five Wits), and their young disciple, "Birdie."

Things began in earnest on Thursday, with the Exhibit Hall doors opening about an hour late. In quick succession, I met (in person, finally): the very tall Erik Scott de Bie; the rib-crushing, stealth-smooching vessel of pure energy, Harley Stroh; cartographer/philosopher/bard Jeremy Simmons; and fellow MOPer Ed Gentry and his lovely wife, Lara Gose.

We had lunch at the food court in the mall, where we got to laugh at the police patrolling on Segways (yes, it was just as funny as it sounds). Then it was off to my signing with fellow Eberron authors Keith Baker and Matt Forbeck, where I also met yet another Eberron author (and head of story development for D&D), James Wyatt. After the signing, we (Jeff, Keith, Matt and I) went out for drinks (soda!) to chat about Eberron and the industry. Keith's lovely and incredibly supportive wife, Ellen, arrived about halfway through, whereupon she and Keith showed off their dragonmark tattoos. Very cool.

Then it was back to the Exhibit Hall, where I met Young Dragon Jaleigh Johnson at the Goodman Games booth. And then it was dinner at that GenCon staple, Steak n Shake (which shall henceforth and forevermore be known as "Chew n Poo"), and off to the Goodman Games party, where I beat Jeff at both air hockey and skeeball.

Oh, yeah, and somewhere in there, WotC announced D&D 4th Edition, but no one cares about that...heh.

More to come...stay tuned!

Glad to hear you had a good time at GenCon. Sorry to have missed you--maybe next year. :)

You just had to go and immortalize Steak 'N Shake's less popular nickname, didn't you? Common sense will you not to quote my brother.

My GenCon experience this year was certainly a better one because of you, Marcy. Thanks for paying for every other meal. ;)

It was the least I could do - besides introducing me to some great people I would likely never have met otherwise, you were my tour guide, PR guy and battle buddy all rolled in to one. If anything, I owe you MORE dinners. ;)
