A Moment of Silence

Haven't been doing much of that lately, but I did write a haiku for this solemn day:
EDIT: I've removed the haiku, as it will now be included in the Poetry from the Trenches antho (see subsequent posts)...so if you didn't read it before, now you'll have to buy the book. Heh. ;)
Everything Else
Take a moment to remember what happened 5 years ago today. Some of us believe that making sure it never happens again is a cause worth fighting for -- worth dying for, even. Some of you, I know, don't share that belief, and that's fine -- we live in a country where such differences of opinion are not only allowed, but encouraged. But never forget that the freedom you have to voice that dissenting opinion was bought by the blood, sweat and tears of the men and women in our armed services -- and their families. Freedom isn't free, people, and if you're not paying the price for it, ask yourself who is?
Yup...it's that soldier whose morale you are sapping away by railing against the war and criticizing his mission. It's his wife back home who has to listen to you complain about the hour it took to get through airport security while she's counting down the thousands of hours she has to wait before she sees her husband again -- if she sees him again. It's their little boy who knows his daddy is a hero and can't understand why you keep saying he's doing something bad.
You can think whatever you want about Bush, and the war. You can say whatever you want. But today, at least, out of respect for those who have sacrificed so much more than you -- just keep it to yourself.
