Everything Else

YB has succumbed yet again to the allergy-induced evil hacking, body-wracking, vomit-up-a-lung cough of death. I've had to start him on oral steroids, and we're doing breathing treatments about every three hours. Why, yes, as a matter of fact, I am exhausted. And so is he, poor thing.

Oh poor baby. :( The boychild got that way when he was little. Other kids got a cold and moved on. The boychild got asthmatic bronchitis and was sicker than sick.

There is nothing worse than being up with a child coughing and unable to breathe. I feel for you.

Thanks, Jaime. I'm considering taking him to Urgent Care, but I know they'll just give him a breathing treatment and send us home, and I can do that here. But maybe they'll give him some cough syrup with codeine so he can at least sleep, poor thing.

Sigh. This SUCKS.

Take him in. You'll feel better and maybe they will give him something so both of you can sleep. And you never know when they need an antibiotic, it can change so quickly.

Good luck no matter what you decide.

I did. Spent three hours there -- not waiting, even, as we were seen right away. Unfortunately, even after two breathing treatments there, he sounded worse when we left than when we came in. We did manage to score a prescription for sleepy-time cough medicine, though, so hopefully he'll be able to rest enough tonight to let all the various medications they pumped him full of actually take effect.

Here's hoping for a better tomorrow.

As someone who's spent the better part of the last five days visiting different people in different hospitals, I can sympathize. I hope he improves soon!

Madeline goes through the same thing (she was hacking all day yesterday). We've wondered if it was allergies or asthma. Her 2yr appt is this week and we're really going to push our Dr. to make a diagnosis and suggest treatments. It's just horrible listening to her wheeze and cough so hard she gags and vomits.

It's probably asthma triggered by allergies -- the worst kind, IMO. My oldest had asthma triggered by upper respiratory infections, so at least I'd know when a flare-up was coming, but with my youngest, they hit out of the blue, since we don't know what his allergy trigger are yet. You should try to get referred to an allergist, and get them to prescribe a nebulizer for her if you don't already have one.

Yeah, we did get a nebulizer on our last visit. The relief seems so temporary, though. I'll mention the allergist referral to my wife to bring up at the appointment.
