Writing

*Submission, Lone Star Stories, 7/8
*Rejection, Star*Line, 7/7 (RT: 1 day)

I think last month's submission percentage is going to be the norm until I get the novel done. The Muse only gives me so many words a day, and I'd rather spend them on the book than poetry or short fiction.

Everything Else

I've been fighting off the first stages of Empty Nest Syndrome this summer. EB starts high school in three weeks -- worse, he's now taller than me. His voice is changing. He's a teenager morphing into a young adult before my eyes. How can I help but project forward a few years when he won't be here every day anymore?

YB also starts preschool in a little over a month, so he's about to step on the path EB is nearing the end of. This is the part of parenting I hate -- the letting go.

Guess it's time to have another one, heh.

::hugs:: It does get easier. You start to like a certain amount of freedom.

But babies are nice too..... *g*

It's just this big house that will be so empty once both my boys are in school. In theory, that will give me an opportune time to write, but I've sort of gotten used to working with cartoons, fighting and constant demands for food in the background, heh.

But you know what's great? When they come home from school and bring their friends because THEIR house is the place to go: there's a parent there, there are snacks, there are RPG supplies. Then there's enough noise in the late afternoons to make your forget the quiet mornings. :)

Ooh! Really?

Well, we've been trying for a long time now with no success, so I was being a little facetious there. But, who knows? We may consider adopting in a few years if the stork continues to avoid our house.

The nest may stay full longer than you think. A friend recently informed me that HALF of young adults (under the age of 30) still live with parents. So you could very well be looking at another 16 years with Elder Boy.

There was a time when that thought would have made me cringe, but now there's a teeny little voice that says, "Yaay!"

If Empty Nest Syndrome is coming, let it come. Don't make it harder by anticipation. (Easier said than done, I'm sure.) And when you feel that void, fill it with RPG action. :) (Easier said than done.)

I continue to be jealous of your pacing with novel-writing.

Well, I wrote nothing yesterday. Does that help? ;)

Well, I wrote twice as much today. So there. ;P

Wow, for some reason I thought EB and YB were closer in age.

We're currently discussing a third. Jo would like to start trying in the fall.

We've been trying for 3 years now. I wish you better luck than we've had!
