Writing

Well, it looks like I won't be attending GenCon this year. I'd been planning on using part of my book advance to pay for the trip, but now that the book's been canceled, I really can't afford it. Plus, I (obviously) don't have anything to promote this year, so it doesn't make a lot of sense from a business point of view. It's not a huge deal for me to cancel at this point (though the airfare is nonrefundable, sigh), but I am really going to miss seeing my friends and fellow Eberron/FR authors. Ah, well, maybe next year.

Everything Else

Thanks for all the anniversary wishes -- we had a wonderful time. TDK was awesome (which you all already know because you saw it opening weekend, heh). Ledger's performance was indeed Oscar-worthy, and Bale was spot on. A little too violent for a PG-13 rating, I think, but that's pretty much my only quibble. I'd definitely see it again.

On the not-so-fun side, my hubby was in a car accident earlier this week. No one was hurt, but he was at fault, so he has to go to traffic school, maybe pay a fine (not sure if the traffic school negates that or not), and, of course, our insurance rates are going to go up.

Hell of a month, this July. Glad it's over.

Sorry to hear that. I was looking forward to commiserating with you in person. ;-) But I can certainly understand; it was a close thing for a while whether I was going this year, myself.

I'm disappointed, too. I just can't justify the cost without the first draft payment to offset it, you know?

Oh, I fully understand. I'm only barely justifying it myself, by

A) Arranging as many meetings to discuss future work as possible, and

B) My wife and I treating this as our yearly "vacation," as much a business trip.

I'll happily commiserate with you, Ari.

Same here. This year it's mostly for fun.

Glad Hubby is okay. And yes, your July sucked donkey unmentionables. No more of that!

July wasn't ALL bad -- there were some really good things that happened this month, too. It's just the constant up-down crap that I'm over -- a few months on a nice, even keel would be a blessing.

Oh, I'm sorry I missed sending anniversary wishes. May all the good times fall on you this month instead.

*sprinkles good time wishes your way*

Thanks, Pam, and no worries! I forgot to alert the media this year. ;)

Actually, we STILL haven't seen it... Hopefully next week.

Just try to limit your fluid intake during the movie -- it's 2 1/2 hours, and there really is not good point for running to the bathroom, because you're goig to miss SOMEthing important.

Yes, July was all in all an incredibly sucky month. Here's to August!!

As I said above, some good things happened in July, too, so it wasn't a total loss for me by any means. It's just the constant up-down that I can do without, you know? I'm not big on roller-coasters.

Damn, that's a shame. I was looking forward to meeting you and gleaning advice. I tend to justify my trip as a mining prospective (I end up with at least one contract every year) and fortunately can claim the expenses as work-related.

The downside is that this'll be my last for a while. Trekking to NZ next year and starting a family tends to divert expenses to other areas after a while...

Maybe some other time?
