Writing

My editor at WotC, Erin Evans, has her first novel coming out tomorrow: The God Catcher. It's set in the Realms and looks to be a good read. Check it out.

She also has an insightful article about doing work-for-hire up over at BSC. In it, she mentions writers who don't meet their deadlines being the bane of her existence. I've never been anyone's bane before. Cool! Heh.

Seriously, I'm more grateful than I can say to her and to WotC for the extension. Having my new baby diagnosed first with a heart defect, and then four months later with a rare childhood cancer, has completely turned my world upside down, as I'm sure you can imagine. And even though he's responded well to treatment thus far, every day is still a challenge. Honestly, the Eberron novel(s) may be the only thing(s) keeping me sane at this point. (Though my family might question my use of the word "sane," heh.)

Everything Else

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Max has his next set of follow-up scans on Wednesday (we go in tomorrow to have his port accessed and get his MIBG injection). "Scanxiety" had kicked in full force and my stomach is a cold, spiky knot of sheer terror. Every little thing has me worried at this point -- he's lost weight, he seems to be sweating more profusely, his teeth still haven't come in. Could any of these things be signs that the tumor has started to grow again, or that the cancer has spread?

Unless the doctor calls us while we're in CA over the weekend, we won't know the answer to that awful question until the 9th. Please keep us in your prayers until then -- the waiting is the most stressful part, and when you throw in another sick child (YB with the cough-that-requires-steroids, again), a pair of 8-hour drives, and a family wedding with 14 people staying in one house for the duration, it's not a question of IF heads will roll, but only of how many, and how far.
