Praise God!!!
Had the follow-up appointment with the oncologist today. Max's tumor has shrunk even more, going from a volume of about 18 cubic centimeters to about 13.5 cubic centimeters (from an 88% reduction in tumor size -- which I probably rounded to 90% when I posted about it before -- to a 91% reduction) and is now almost entirely calcified, which means it is mostly inactive. Thank God!
Max's echo and chest x-ray also showed that his VSD is down to 3 mm and is continuing to close on its own, and is having no effect whatsoever on his heart function, so no surgery should be necessary. Thank God!
Max IS still losing weight -- he's down now to 9.5 kg (from 9.8 just a week ago and 9.9 two months ago). He eats well despite his allergies, so both his oncologist and cardiologist are at a loss to explain it, except to say that it's NOT due to either his heart or the cancer. So we'll be heading back to his pediatrician to see what she suggests.
But, in the meantime, it's time to remove his central line, which is a HUGE milestone for cancer kids. We haven't scheduled it yet, but I'll let you all know when we do.
Thank you all SOOOOO much for your continued prayers and good thoughts -- we'd never have made it this far without them.
