Writing

I've spent the past week or so since turning in my first draft returning crits for my betas. So far I've read 2/3 of an epic fantasy (still waiting on the last 1/3 -- looks at Stu impatiently), the beginning 1/3 of another fantasy and 2009 Columbus Literary Award (fiction) winner, Delia's Shadow, by everyone's favorite Rhysling Chair, Jaime Lee Moyer. This one's gonna be big, folks. Mark my words, and reserve your copy early once it comes out. You won't be disappointed.

Everything Else

Max's surgery is tomorrow. Been going a few rounds with various folks at the hospital (who apparently never speak to one another) about the deductible amount and whether it's been met or not (it has). Luckily hubby's HR people have been on top of it all, making calls to both our insurance provider and the hospital to make sure everyone's on the same page. I think we all are, now, but I'm reserving judgment until after we check in tomorrow.

Max also took his first unassisted step last night! It's all downhill from here! Heh.

Other assorted odds and ends -- EB played in a doubles tournament over the weekend and he and his partner won second place. I'm just tickled he decided to follow in my footsteps and take up tennis as his sport of choice. He's also taking Creative Writing next year, though for some reason he still trusts his peers' opinions of his writing more than his published author/editor mother's. Go figure. Must be the age.

And today is YB's first student-led parent conference, where he gets to tell hubby and I what he does in school all day. I'm envisioning a very short meeting, considering that when he's asked that same question when he gets home from school every day, his answer is invariably, "I forgot." Heh.

And that's all the news in Marcyville. Not exactly CNN-worthy, but it keeps us busy.

Hoping all goes well for you guys today, Marce.

And working right now on getting my inserted chapter finished so I can send the rest to you. :) I had another beta reader send back parts 1 and 2 this morning, so now I have double the incentive to get this out.

But at least you haven't been waiting as long as she. I wrote the first dabblings of this story at her apartment 15 years ago in Finland. :) It was only a few chapters that, except for a single scene in part 3, was a completely different story. I wonder if she'll remember that scene when she reads it... It was a doosie, along the lines of the "Red Wedding" in GRRM's series.
